London Travel Help

Hey SKB Ladies,

This is my first post online so I am a little nervous and hope my message gets published. I would like to share some worries I have and hope another woman who has felt or been through the same thing will be able to help me. I am from Sri Lanka and this will be my first trip travelling to London UK. I know the founder of SKB is British so if she can reply to me that would be helpful too.

Are there any women that can advise me on ways to keep safe whilst I am solo travelling around London for 2 weeks in December. I asked a colleague at work, and he really scared me to be honest. He told me that London and the whole of the UK is unsafe, super ugly and boring. It has been a dream to travel to Europe. I have seen London so many times in movies and to be honest it looks magical at Christmas. I won’t cancel my trip because I promised myself that I will not get put off by him but any advice from women who have travelled or lived in London themselves would be amazing.

I know London and the whole of Europe has high crime rates etc but are there any women who can advise me about the positive sides of London? I want to feel excited and prepared when I arrive in December.

Thank you and I hope somebody will reply to me.

@bananaknowsbest, I am so happy to read that you are not going to cancel your trip. London is a wonderful city! So you are a solo female traveler heading to London and I would say that you should embrace the adventure while staying mindful of your surroundings. Keep your belongings secure and trust your instincts—if something doesn’t feel right, just change your plans. Take advantage of London’s excellent public transport and consider joining group tours or meet-ups to connect with other people. Meet up is an app that has loads of group activities in London. Explore iconic sites (a quick search on google will show you which ones) but also seek out hidden gemsin Shoreditch and Notting Hill (again google will help with this). Take time to enjoy the experience and ignore unhelpful comments from negative people. Yes your colleague might be speaking from experience and is trying to keep it real with you but don’t be put off because London is a beautiful city and you will be so happy you went!

Hello banaknowsbest girly. First I want to say that even though your workmate might be correct on some things, this should never make you doubt the possibility of traveling to the uk at all. People underestimate how beautiful the UK and London is, the history, the hundreds of different cultures, amazing natural landscapes, some of the best museums in the world, and friendly people who arent afraid to say hello (also some of the guys are quite nice too! haha). Go and experience the uk for yourself but always use your common sense, it’s not like Dubai and you should always be aware of your surroundings. Have the best time and come back on here and let us know what you thought! atlknowsbest x

London during Christmas will be sooo magical! It sometimes snows here, so it will be a plus if it does. Fingers crossed for you! Make sure to check out Oxford Street, Regents Street (and nearby streets), go to Selfridges and Harrods for the experience! Maybe even check out a theatre show. Be mindful of your surroundings, I’d probably also suggest getting a phone strap so you can be safe from phone snatchers! Have an amazing time! You’ll be glad you came x

hey girl, I havent been to London but I have been to some other European cities. I wanted to share some advice about my time traveling as a solo female from California in Paris, Madrid, Prague, Amsterdam and Berlin. I hope it will be useful and gives you the courage to go to London and have the time of your life! Firstly, stay mindful of your safety and well-being. So,always keep your valuables secure, like using a money belt or crossbody bag, and avoid wearing branded or flashy jewellery . Before you travel, research London wayyy ahead of time, including safe areas, public transport Links, and key emergency contacts. Please trust your instincts because if something doesn’t feel right you should remove yourself from the situation or area asap. I always had a portable phone charger when I travelled and make plans of how to contact someone back home if you may need to. Most importantly though, enjoy the freedom to explore London at your own pace and dont be put off from going by other people x
